Mosquito Abatement District
This semi-independent Board has taxing ability and uses the tax money collected to fight mosquitoes and mosquito borne diseases. This volunteer board has 4 members appointed by the County Commission and one member appointed by the Manila Town Council since they are wholly within the district. State Grant monies dried up several years ago, so efforts are completely dependent on tax dollars.
Efforts to control mosquitoes include aerial spraying and fogging of pesticide and manual application of mosquito larviciding
Board meetings are held quarterly or as needed and the public is welcome to attend. The public is also reminded that everyone can participate in mosquito control, by getting rid of stagnant water and reporting mosquito concentrations to the Board at 784-3218 ext. 134 or 784-3218 or email us at
